Victorian Brass Inkwell Standish
Solid. Architectural. Unapologetically brass. This single inkwell standish — likely English or Continental, circa 1880–1910 — has the kind of presence that makes everything else on a desk look like an afterthought. A deeply cast acanthus and foliate border frames the square tray, corner feet lift it just off the surface, and a grid-bodied plinth raises the domed hinged inkwell to exactly the right height. The turned finial on top is the period equivalent of a full stop.
The olive-gold patina with green oxidation in the recesses is all original — the kind of depth that only comes with a century of sitting on someone's desk.
