There is something quietly perfect about a piece that works as hard as it looks good. This Danish teak secretary bookcase by Johannes Sorth for Bornholms Møbelfabrik delivers exactly that: open shelving above for books, objects, and curated collections, paired with a closed cabinet below finished with those signature circular pulls that are unmistakably Scandinavian.
Sorth's work for the Bornholm island workshop is celebrated for its warm, approachable take on Danish Modernism — less austere than some of his contemporaries, more livable, more human. This piece is a perfect example. The rich honey teak grain runs beautifully throughout, with the open upper unit showcasing three adjustable shelves and a gorgeously figured back panel. The lower cabinet features two sliding doors with recessed circular knobs, concealing generous storage behind a clean, uninterrupted facade. Tapered legs lift the whole piece with a lightness that belies its utility.
A named designer. A storied workshop. A piece that only gets better with time.
