A charming and functional piece of mid-century French entertaining culture. A naturalistic fish — carved from horn with etched scale detail and vivid red glass eyes — rests on a rich lacquered wood base alongside a cylindrical holder filled with mushroom-topped cocktail picks, each individually carved from horn in warm cream and brown tones.

Horn carving of this quality was a cottage industry in postwar France, and sets like this were made for the cocktail hour — stylish, tactile, and completely of their moment. Use them, display them, or both.

Horn, lacquered wood. France, c. 1950s–60s. Vintage condition; picks included.
